Carrollton is one of New Orleans’ many National Register Historic Districts. In 1833, the town of Carrollton was platted at the end of the New Orleans railway line, which is now the St. Charles streetcar line.

In 1874, New Orleans annexed the area and it thrived in the ensuing decades, developing much of the historic housing stock that defines the character of the neighborhood today as an historic “suburb”.
